Unlike the pristine landscape, lost in the haze of hidden meanings and frivolous aesthetics, the street always tells the truth. On the street, everything is accessible to all: verbalized, regulated, and predictable. Even a riot.
Only the newspaper and the television can be compared to the street. They also cannot lie. Therefore, nobody pays attention to them.
So, why photograph the street?
The answer is obvious: civilization has reduced demand for the efforts necessary to survive. The rest of our energy must be dispersed somewhat -- either by watching TV or lugging a tripod over the streets. Have fun.
